Moscow -A Russian journalist has uncovered evidence of another Soviet nuclear catastrophe, which killed 10 sailors and contaminated an entire town.

Yelena Vazrshavskya is the first journalist to speak to people who witnessed the explosion of a nuclear submarine at the naval base of Shkotovo – 22 near Vladivostok.

The accident, which occurred 13 months before the Chemobyl disaster, spread radioactive fall-out over the base and i.earby town. but was covered up by officials of the then Soviet Union. Residents were told the explosion in the reactor of the Victor-class submarine during a refit had been a ‘thermal’ and not a nuclear explosion. The Air Force is still investigating the cause of last Thursday’s military plane crash on Mount Salak, Bogor, an officials say.

“I cannot reveal any preliminary suspicions on the crash because we are still waiting for result of the investigating,” Air Force spokesman Chaerudin Ray said here Sunday.

He said he was sure that human error was not the cause of the Casa 212’s crash because the Captain’s Pilot, Maj. Bendot Arjiyanto, was both an experienced pilot and an instructor.

Chaerudin said no Casa planes belonging to the Air Force, including the 1984 Casa light transport airplane, carried a black box.

“We only rely on the tape recorder and a record from the Jakarta air traffic control,” he said.

Australia winces at footage of child falling between train and platform

Sydney - Australia released hair-raising security images on Tuesday of a child falling between a train station platform and a train, as a reminder to parents to stay vigilant during the busy school holidays.

A train stops at a Sydney station, and a woman pushes a stroller toward the open doors, in the closed-circuit television pictures. As she prepares to lift the stroller onto the train, the child walking beside her plunges into the gap between the woman and the train. The woman then raises her arm to draw the attention of station staff, while passersby pull the apparently unharmed child back onto the platform.

"A simple thing such as holding your child's hand when moving around stations and boarding a train can help prevent them from being seriously injured or worse," Andrew Constance, the transport minister of New South Wales, said in a statement.

The clip was widely shared on social media, with a post by Nine Entertainment Co Holdings Ltd's drawing 1,600 comments and 1,100 "shares".

More than half of train station accidents on the 178-station Sydney Trains network take place at the three busiest stations in the city's central business district, Chief Executive Howard Collins said.

"The most important message I'd like to share with parents is please don't rush around stations or platforms," he added.

Yogyakarta Transportation Agency Head Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti said 21,628 motorcycles and 9,528 cars entered the area on Friday, December 24. The number dropped a day after to 19,362 motorcycles and 7,741 cars.

“The peak of community mobility during the Christmas and New Year holidays occurred last Friday night,” he added.

"This is an effort to anticipate the spread of COVID-19 and prevent a surge in visitors during the Christmas holiday on the weekend. The supervision will continue until the New Year's holiday,"  stated Head of the Tourism, Telecommunications, and Transportation Division of the Regional Economic Recovery Committee of West Java Province Dedi Taufik.

Many parties are involved in the supervision, he told ANTARA in a telephone interview on Sunday.

The West Java Tourism and Culture Office team members were sent to areas that tourists commonly crowd during holiday seasons.

Those areas include Greater Bandung, Lembang-Ciater, Cipanas-Kamojang-Santolo, Pangandaran, Palabuan Ratu, Bogor-Puncak-Cianjur, Cirebon-Kuningan, and Ciwidey-Pangalengan.

Taufik himself supervised the health protocols implementation in wildlife park Taman Safari Indonesia, Bogor District, West Java.

"We are monitoring people's visits to tourist attractions in order to suppress COVID-19 transmission during Christmas and New Year's holidays," he explained.

Aside from implementing health protocols, the tourist attraction operators are also urged to utilize the PeduliLindungi application as an early health screening effort for visitors.

Taufik affirmed that his party is carrying out COVID-19 antigen tests at several tourist attractions. The test is divided into two: the first is random testing, and the second is intended for visitors who do not have the PeduliLindung application and fail to show their vaccination results.

The tourist attractions that were chosen to conduct the test are Taman Safari and Pangandaran Beach. He informed that no one had been detected positive so far.

"In terms of health protocols, it (the implementation) is already good. We are also implementing the PeduliLindungi application and COVID-19 testing. So far, no one has been tested positive (for COVID-19)," he remarked.

The Holding company must be able to record 330 million of domestic tourists and 17 million international tourists, a number which is equal to the period before the Covid-19 pandemic hits.

"In addition, we are also targeted to be able to improve the tourism sector to give a 4.5 percent contribution to the GDP [Gross Domestic Product]. That is a massive effort because during the pandemic, the[tourism] sector only contributes under 4 percent of the GDP," Maya said in an online press conference on Friday, January 14, 2022.

Maya explained that to achieve the target, the State-Owned Enterprises Tourism Holding company has prepared a strategy. The long-term strategy is to create clusters under the holding company supervision integrated in a single ecosystem. The clusters under the State-Owned Enterprises Tourism Holding company includes the aviation, tourism, hotel, and retail sectors.

Maya asserted that several matters that must be synergized are transportation availability, logistic flow, and availability of accommodation for tourism. She believed that if the tourism can be integrated, the goal to increase numbers of domestic and international tourists can be achieved.

Meanwhile, for the short-term strategy, the State-Owned Enterprises Tourism Holding company has created a 100 days calendar of event. The calendar of event will serve as a reference for activities within a certain year that will be held at high-priority destinations to increase tourist number.
