The Use of So and Such

Jika dalam membuat satu kalimat biasanya kita dapat mengamati penggunaan dari so…that, dan such…that dengan ciri-ciri yang ada, maka dalam sebuah percakapan hal tersebut tidak selalu di satu kalimat.

Penggunaannya dalam sebuah percakapan juga sama dengan berupa kalimat biasa, untuk menyatakan adanya sebuah sebab dan akibat yang terjadi yang diketahui dua belah pihak.

Berikut ini ada contoh dalam sebuah percakapan antara Chen dan Kai.

Kai: Oh, bro, I’ve heard that you should pay for the books you borrowed from Public Library, why?
Chen: Ya, I so forgot to return the books in time. I brought it back to the library 14 days after the time limit.
Kai: Was it so? Oh, I see. Didn’t you note on the calendar on your phone about it?
Chen: That is.. I was such a careless person.

Dalam percakapan tersebut, kita dapat memerhatikan penggunaan so…that… dan such…that…. di sebuah percakapan.

Dari situ akan terlihat sebab-akibat sebuah kejadian.

PEMBAHASAN

Dalam kalimat tersebut menggunakan so… sehingga kita bisa mengubahnya dengan menggunakan such…that…. dengan syarat selalu diikuti oleh noun phrase atau a lot of.

Kata kerja forget dapat kita ubah ke bentuk kata sifat (adjective) menjadi forgetful. Dalam bentuk noun phrase kita memerlukan sebuah article dan kata benda (noun).

Bentuknya menjadi a forgetful person.

Jika dibentuk dalam kalimat menjadi: I was such a forgetful person that I did not return the books in time.
