Procedure Text
Procedure text atau teks prosedur adalah teks yang bertujuan untuk memberikan petunjuk tentang cara melakukan sesuatu melalui tindakan-tindakan atau langkah-langkah yang berurutan.
Teks prosedur sendiri dapat berupa:
- Manual menggunakan sesuatu (manual)
- Resep masakan (Recipe)
- Langkah percobaan atau eksperimen
- Langkah mengoperasikan program tertentu
Dengan mengetahui Characteristics of Procedure (ciri-ciri teks prosedur) di bawah ini, kita dapat membedakan lebih baik dari teks yang lain.
- Umumnya, teks prosedur menggunakan bentuk waktu masa kini (simple present tense) dan lebih sering menggunakan bentuk berupa kalimat perintah (implerative)
- Karena teks ini menjelaskan langkah-langkah dalam melakukan sesuatu, maka kita perlu menggunakan kata penghubung temporal (first, then, nect, finally) atau penomoran sesuai urutan.
- Selain itu, teks ini juga menggunakan kata kerja tindakan (action verbs).
Imperative (Kalimat Perintah)
Imperative sentence umumnya tidak menggunakan subject (you) karena dianggap sudah dimengerti atau dengan kata lain imperative sentence merupakan elliptical construction, yaitu konstruksi kalimat yang satu atau lebih elemen penyusunnya dihilangkan karena dianggap sudah dimengerti.
Kalimat perintah (Imperative sentenece) dapat berupa command, request, atau instruction.
Command
- Do not step on the grass. (Jangan menginjak rumput.)
- Come in. (Masuk.)
- Shut up the window! (Tutup jendela.)
Request
- Please reconsider my job application. (Tolong pertimbangkan lamaran kerja saya.)
- Let me alone, please. (Biarkan saya sendiri.)
Instruction
- Add a glass of coconut milk into a pan and then boil it. (Tambahkan satu gelas santan ke dalam panci lalu rebus.)
- Go straight ahead then turn left. (Jalan lurus ke depan lalu belok kiri.)
